Feeling like your self-esteem has been lower than your estrogen levels lately? Menopause, or “the change,” is not just a physiologically taxing transition, but it also takes a toll on one’s mental health.

Boss Tip #1: Self-Care

Self-care feels like more of a buzz word these days, but what does it really mean? Is it just bath bombs and massages? Maybe a guilt-free slice of pizza? Nope, self-care isn’t just mindless self-indulgence but rather a conscious act of giving attention to ones own physical, mental, and emotional health. Essentially, it’s feeding yourself chicken soup for your soul. It is not an avoidance strategy, but rather a coming home to the self.  

So what are some examples of self-care?  

  • Meditating  
  • Practicing good sleep hygiene 
  • Going for a walk 
  • Budgeting   

Boss Tip #2: Diet and Exercise

We know that both eating a healthy diet, and exercising regularly helps to offset menopause-related weight gain, but did you know that they also serve as a natural self-esteem booster? That’s right, a healthy diet can help alleviate anxiety, mood swings, and insomnia. Physical activity has also been proven to give you a confidence boost. Keep in mind, you don’t need to train like an Olympian to reap the benefits of exercise. A walk around the block or a bit a yoga can do the job. Find a routine that works for you.  

Boss Tip #3: Seek Outside Support 

If you feel like you’re unable to “snap out of it,” there is no shame in seeking help. You can engage with an appropriate health professional who will create a treatment plan to bring you back to boss mode. Therapy can improve one’s self esteem through purposeful introspection, and empower you to live the bold and beautiful life of a true boss.
